Paris Hilton released without charge after marijuana arrest

Paris Hilton has been arrested in South Africa and released without charge after a friend was seen smoking marijuana during a World Cup match.

The hotel heiress, 29, was arrested in Port Elizabeth after allegedly being caught by police following the quarter final match between Brazil and Holland.
Police confirmed Miss Hilton and her friend Jennifer Rovero had been arrested and said an investigation was under way.
Miss Rovero, who describes herself as a former Playboy playmate, model and actress on her website, was sentenced to a fine of 1,000 rand ($130) or 30 days in jail for smoking a marijuana joint. Her lawyer told the court she was in South Africa to cover the World Cup as a freelance photographer.
Ms Hilton appeared in the court wearing a beige dress and a glittery necklace with her hair in two ponytails, a reporter said.
In court she was addressed as "accused number 1".
A South African judge later dropped the charges against Miss Hilton, however.
"They were together, but we didn't have a case against Hilton. The joint was in Rovero's possession, not Hilton's," the prosecutor said.
Her publicist issued a statement calling the arrest a misunderstanding.
"Paris Hilton was questioned today by police in South Africa on allegations of smoking marijuana," the statement read.
"However I can confirm that the incident was a complete misunderstanding and it was actually another person in the group who did it. The case has been dropped against Paris and no charges will be made."
South Africa's Times newspaper reported that Hilton was escorted by police to the Mount Road Police Station in Port Elizabeth shortly before 8pm.
Hilton only arrived in South Africa on Thursday for a World Cup trip.
Since arriving in the host nation on a private jet she has posted about her experience on Twitter.
Writing on her account, she said: "It's so beautiful here. I can't wait to go on the Safari this week and see all the amazing animals."
She later said: "Hey guys, there's a lot of crazy rumors going around. Just want you all to know the truth. Everything is completely fine. I was not charged or arrested, cause I didn't do anything. I was assisting the police with the investigation and answering their questions. Everyone was super nice and friendly to me. I love South Africa! Such an amazing place, especially during The World Cup!"

State dinner has it all: Beyonce, world-class chef

For all the world-class food and entertainment, deft touches and elegance of the evening, the Obamas' second state dinner was as notable for what didn't happen as what did.
As far as anyone could tell, no one crashed the party. And no other major disasters were apparent either.
As the evening wore on, the smiles on the faces of White House staff seemed to get more relaxed. And even the president loosened up.
"I know we just had a very formal dinner," Obama said as guests reassembled in a tent on the South Lawn for dessert and after-dinner entertainment. "But we heard that this was the place for the real party."
And party they did, to the music of guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela and then to the sounds of an artist whom Obama referred to as "somebody some of you may have heard of — named Beyonce." And, yes, her husband Jay-Z was in the house too.
Obama declared it his mission to get Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife, Margarita Zavala, out on the dance floor along with himself and first lady Michelle Obama. But reporters were ushered out before the after-party ever got to the dancing stage.
The special eagerness to pull off a flawless evening Wednesday had its beginnings in the brouhaha that erupted after a couple of party-crashers penetrated the Obamas' first state dinner in November.
The White House promised tighter security this time — and it delivered.
Among the hundreds who lined up to get in, at least one woman was turned away for lack of proper ID.
Kathryne Mudge said her husband, Arturo Valenzuela, an assistant secretary of state, was supposed to bring the necessary identification.
"My husband is the absent-minded professor," Mudge said.
Their evening wasn't a complete loss though.
The couple returned about an hour later, presumably with their IDs in order, and got in.
The dinner guest list of 200 had an ample celebrity quotient, including Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Longoria Parker, George Lopez and Olympic speedskater Shani Davis.
Goldberg said it felt like she was "coming home after a long drought." She'd been invited frequently during Bill Clinton's years. But not during the George W. Bush years.
Lopez, a comedian, joked when asked about the security. "The guy with the glove was nice," he said.
Longoria Parker talked policy, saying it was an important time to be holding such a dinner with Mexican leaders, given the hot temperatures over immigration right now.
"You can't have these states doing their own punitive laws," she insisted, referring to Arizona's tough new immigration law.
For all of the seasoned guests who've been to many a state dinner, there were plenty of first-timers for whom it was a pinch-me moment.
Maria Vargas, from California, was one of the first to arrive, and came clutching her copy of "The Audacity of Hope."
She was out to get it autographed from Obama. "Hopefully," she said.
Agapa Pappas, from Chicago, told reporters, "It's a dream," as she pinched her arm.
The evening's fashion report was heavy on women in bright, vibrant colors and strapless or one-shouldered gowns.
Mrs. Obama set the tone with a one-shoulder, shimmery, cobalt blue floor-length gown by Peter Soronen. Zavala wore a plum-colored, sleeveless gown with an Aztec-inspired blue border around the square neckline.
Davis, the skater, was a little weak on his fashion status. His green tie, he said, was from Men's Wearhouse, and he guessed that was where his suit came from too. Then he checked the label and announced, "Ralph Lauren."
The state dinner was a coming-out party of sorts for new White House social secretary Julianna Smoot, who sprinted off when reporters watching the guests arrive called out for her to stop and chat. Smoot's predecessor, Desiree Rogers, resigned earlier this year; she'd been criticized for her high-profile approach to the job.
For their second state dinner, Mrs. Obama recruited Chicago chef Rick Bayless — one of the couple's favorites — to prepare the meal. The main course of Oregon wagyu beef came with a Oaxacan black mole sauce with more than 20 ingredients that takes days to come together.

Chief Of Protocol Slips On White House Steps At State Dinner

Oh no! Chief of Protocol of the United States Capricia Penavic Marshall slipped on the steps of the North Portico of the White House before the arrival of Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife Margarita Zavala to the State Dinner. President Obama cautioned photographers "Don't take that picture" and Michelle Obama added "Don't print that picture!"

Terry G and UniBen SUG

Since we exclusively broke to you the details of a January botched performance engagement of Ginjah master- Terry G, at the University of Benin, many weeks back, a lot more development have occurred. Chief among this is the fact that the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UniBen), through their lawyers, are demanding for N20m as damages from the artiste.

Spokesman for the institution’s SUG, Cyril Emiko, the same who booked the performance at Terry’s Lagos office and acted as Welfare
Officer of the union (he’s now graduated), has been in the forefront of negotiations with the producer cum singer. Cyril, together with some colleagues, dragged the singer and his management to the Police Force Headquarters in Lagos when Terry allegedly refused to refund the N500, 000 advance payment made for the January performance.

But unknown to many, Terry G had refunded a sizeable amount of the money in question to the organisers.
Terry told Showtime that “On March 29, I paid in N400, 000 at the GTBank, Ogba into TNT Limited’s account. That was the account name that I was told to pay into”. “And when I was summoned to the Force Headquarters I went with another N100, 000 hoping to balance them (the aggrieved union) once and for all”, that was on the 13th of April.

According to Terry G, when they (together with his manager and P.A) got to the Police Headquarters, he got more than he bargained for.

He, in the presence of the police PRO, Supt Frank Mba, agreed upon negotiation to pay the sum of N 1,174, 000 for expenses and losses incurred by the botched show organisers. On the spot, he paid the N100, 000, he had brought along and gave his word to pay up the balance.

On the 20th of April, a sum of N774, 000 being balance was paid into a First Bank Account (Fagba Branch) with number, 6163060000028 and titled, Emiko A. Cyril with Teller No 3320666.

The singer said he was convinced by Cyril who came to his office and personally walked down his (Terry’s) Personal Assistant, to the bank to ensure that the payment was made into his private account.

Terry alleged that Cyril said there was no need getting the police involved in paying the balance since there wasn’t any form of disagreement.

About a week later, Terry was allegedly served a letter from a law firm in respect of their client – the Student Union Government of University of Benin.

The letter addressed the supposedly settled matter and asked for a N20m payment for damages and also requested that the singer performed a free show at the University as a way of compensating organisers.

The latter condition, was allegedly raised at the Police meeting and to which, Terry claims that the police PRO negated such possibility for reasons bordering on the singer’s security.

According to both parties (the Union’s rep and Terry G), another condition raised and agreed on at the Police Headquarters was that the singer should apologise to the University community in the mass media.

The singer has since showed compliance by calling a press conference comprising a number of electronic and print media in Ikeja, on Wednesday (28th April) and addressed the matter.

In reaction to the new claim by the SUG, a senior Police source described it as “illegal” and “subjecting the boy to forced labour”.

He goes further to say that, “since there was no written agreement prior to the initial engagement, the Emikos or SUG have no right to bill Terry G N20m for whatever reasons and any additional request made apart from the ones agreed in my office should be subjected to court scrutiny”. Subsequently the artiste has drawn the attention of his lawyers to the case.

Contacted on the phone, Terry G’s lawyer, Dare Falana of the Femi Falana Chambers re- echoed the Police spokesman’s statement stating that the Students Union Government of the University of Benin has no legal right to usurp the powers of the court.

“In a matter like this, only the law courts can declare if any money should be paid to anyone on a matter where an agreement is reached verbally. Let them go to court and we’d meet them there”, he declared.

Mr Gabriel Amani aka Terry G was contacted to perform at the UniBen Terry G Invasion 1 billed to take place on January 29th this year.
Terry G

An advance fee of N500, 000 was paid on the 23rd of same month, to the artiste and hotel accommodations and flight ticket for five persons were allegedly procured him and his travel party’s comfort. For reasons best known to Terry G, he cancelled the engagement without a word to the organisers.

Talk between both parties broke down and the matter was taken to the Force Headquarters where an agreement was reached that Terry made a refund of N1, 174, 000 for damages and expenses incurred by the SUG for the disappointment. Naeto C, Jimmy Jatt and Slizzy E were billed to perform at the same show.

GHANAIAN TOP DIRECTOR SLEEPS WITH HOUSEMAID IN NIGERIA

Frank Rajah
The influx of Ghana actors and movie makers in Nollywood industry seems to be having a negative effect on the fast-growing entertainment industry in Nigeria. The other day, some marketers got themselves arrested over a certain actor in far away East now it’s another Ghanaian movie director popularly called Frank Rajah who is at large over his alleged rape, molestation and sexual assault he recently carried out at a film location in Asaba on a housemaid. He’s alleged of having canal knowledge of a house-help, Chinemelu, right inside the house they used as location a couple of weeks back.

Mr. Frank Rajah was in Nigeria first week of Match to shoot a movie for Immortal films Company in ASABA, Delta State. Findings disclosed to WWW.NIGERIAFILMS.COM that the house that abhorred them for the movie has the major shots and in the course of carrying out this responsibility as a director on set, he had the opportunity to move around the place, since the shooting was taking them longer than expected.

“Frank found time to play with the housemaid whenever their hosts left for his office, they were either found smiling at a corner or he asked the young but beautiful girl to pick one or two things for him, most times, he would leave whatever balance of money to the girl to keep as a tip, all this was to get the attention of the little pretty girl and this continued for the number of days we worked in that house. An eye witness told www.nigeriafilms.com.

Information reaching www.nigeriafilms.com that at a point the little naive and helpless house-help did not know how to refuse the pressures and the molestation being meted on her by Frank as herself was said to have been carried away with the glamour and presence of top movie idols around to the extent that she would even prepared delicious delicacies for Frank whenever her ‘masters’ stepped out of the house for the office.

The main drama, however, unfolded itself a day after they were through with the house scenes shooting. Frank Rajah whisked this little girl, Chinemelu which a lot of people in the location regarded as underaged to his hotel room in the city of the town, Asaba when her boss and madam had gone out and he was busy right on top of her, violating her youthful innocence…

Meanwhile, Rajah’s girlfriend Easther, an upcoming artiste, who happened to be part of the cast walked in at that moment Rajah and the house-girl were having a swell time and she nearly caused commotion as she sighted the two of them together. “She started given the two estranged lovers punches and they started running for their dear lives but not until Esther ensured she gave the little Chinemelu a disfigured face before she returned to her master.” www.nigeriafilms.com gathered.

Like wildfires, the rumour quickly reached the master and she was compelled to state everything that transpired between her and the Ghanaian movie director. Having fully explained to them, the masters ordered for the arrest of Frank but before they got to his hotel room, he was nowhere to be found. It was later discovered that he was far gone back to Ghana.

Chinemelu, we learnt, has been asked by her masters to leave their house with immediate effect to her parents’ house while Rajah has been placed on persona-non granter in Nigeria and entire movie industry. We exclusively gathered.

Frank Rajah has directed movies like Behind a Smile, Passion of the Soul Part 1&2, Beyonce, Heart of Men, Brenda On War Path to mention but just a few.
